Quick Yoga Routines
For most of us our life revolves around work and personal commitments and we have little time for ourselves. It is vital for you to take some time out of your busy schedule and focus on yourself. To lead a happy and productive life it is important that your mind and body are united. You are able to benefit from this union by gaining better control on your emotions, energy and actions.
Much of the stress in our lives is related to the lack of control that we feel in our lives. While you may not be able to control external factors you can control your body and mind’s reaction to them. Yoga is an ancient system of exercise that promotes health from the inside out. Most of us acknowledge the importance of exercise but find little time and energy for it. Yoga is one of the only forms of exercise that energizes the body while helping the mind stay focused. You can easily add a yoga routine to your day by making a few small changes to it.
It is important to do yoga on an empty stomach and the early hours of the day are ideal for it. You would need to set aside 15 minutes of time for yourself, and will stay energized and focused for the rest of the day. Yoga includes a combination of ‘asanas’, breathing techniques and meditative states. You can ask your yoga instructor what kind of ‘asanas’ are ideal for you and also check with your medical consultant before you begin.
Also do remember to begin at your level of fitness and not over do it. You can begin your routine by sitting cross legged and focusing on your breathing. ‘Pranayama’ or the breathing techniques help you stay centered and calm you. Do some ‘asanas’ that stretch your muscles, this could include the cat stretch and the ‘Tadasana’ or the mountain pose, which I am sure your instructor will start you what is best suited for you.
Next move on to perform the ‘Suryanamaskar’ or Sun Salutation. This routine exercises every muscle in your body. It is important that you learn it right and do the ‘asanas’ with the correct breathing style. Once you have mastered the ‘Suryanamaskar’ you can do it faster and also ask your instructor to show you other variations of the same exercise.
Lastly, end your routine with the ‘Savasana’ or the Corpse Pose and focus on your breathing once again. This pose helps you relax and gain control over your mind and heart.
Yoga at Work
It is possible for you to practice basic breathing techniques and back and neck stretches at work without attracting any attention to yourself. We spend most of our day sitting on a chair in front of a computer. It is important to perform neck, shoulder, wrist, back and leg stretches to keep your muscles supple and flexible. Some meditative states can also be practiced at the workplace to energize your body and mind. By keeping your emotions, thoughts and actions in control you can reduce the amount of stress your body and mind undergo.
